'Limpet' Banjo - Fitting instructions
Headway
Partnership
“Limpet Banjo” offers a
lively, full range & percussion sound, avoiding background noise,
distortion and excessive handling noise or feedback.
The unique “Limpet Banjo” frees you from being tied down to mike stands,
speeds sound checks and minimises cluttersome equipment needed to set up
and transport. This piezo approach does not suffer from the electric
guitar like artificial sustain or over rapid rise time, of magnetic
pickups and is far less prone to over heavy bass or muted treble tones.
Unlike, a straight piezo bug or microphone, boom and feedback can be
hugely avoided. Also, it may be fitted and removed from skin easily.
“Limpet Banjo” is supplied with in a pressure adjustable assembly, using
damping via acoustic filter.
SIMPLE FITTING OF BANJO PICKUP
1) Place drum on two
raised flat surfaces, either side of bridge, with skin at base;
2) Place pickup against skin, 1” behind bridge, towards tailpiece, with
centre hole at back;
3) Arrange middle of wood “V” bracket around both centre rods ( 1 will
suffice), above pickup, with nut & bolt through middle of “V” and daisy
wheel bolt into hole on back of wooden pickup assembly,
4) Tighten nut/bolt until clamp holds on rod(s);
5) Turn daisy wheel until cylindrical wood pickup assembly is pushed tight
against skin;
6) End Pin Jack Socket can be affixed through side of Banjo. If not
acceptable, it may be affixed to side of body via adhesive foam pads and
associated re-useable cable ties. Use 3-4 if possible. Alternatively, it
may be cable tied to brackets and other metal features. Tighten cable ties
as much as possible. Pliers may assist.
Ensure that wires are fixed by adhesive Velcro, cable clips or tape, where
they are unlikely to be caught or damaged;
Tone Control: Tone can be varied by altering pressure against skin.
Slackening pressure, while retaining sufficient contact, will increase
bass, volume and possibly mid range. Increasing pressure will increase
treble slightly and reduce bass and consequential overall volume.
Non-active “Limpet” pickups should have cables kept down to a minimum, but
no more than 6 metres.
Use quality metal covered jacks & low noise high screen, mono Guitar
/Instrument cable. Low capacitance cable should be a small improvement.
The use of a good quality active Pre-amp or DI box (with no attenuation),
on short lead from pickup, may make a considerable improvement, especially
where longer cable lengths to PA are needed.
Use high impedance inputs from Pickup wherever possible, but line level
inputs will normally be acceptable subject to careful use, as above.
